Snow Cover in the Oregon Cascades 2014-2017 (2017)
Purpose
To show variations in the extent of snow covered area in a region of the central Oregon Cascade Mountains between Spring 2014 and late Winter 2017 and determine how this quantity might correlate with snow depth. Intended for researchers, especially in remote sensing and GIS, and the general public.
Methodology
Landsat-8 data was analyzed using the Normalized-Difference Snow Index (NDSI) to determine presence of snow in each capture. The results were compared with snow depth data obtained from SNOTEL sites in the same region. Cartographic techniques include small multiples of satellite imagery and NDSI data.
Specifications
24 x 36 inches, color.
